Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution and processing companies in North America servicing customers primarily in Canada and the United States. The company conducts business in three metals distribution segments: metals service centers, energy products and steel distributors. We provide steel processing and distribution services to a broad base of approximately 35,000 end users through a network of 148 branches.
We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Shift Supervisor within our Delta, BC Branch.
This is a full-time, permanent position that reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Develop and maintain positive employee relations
Manage employee performance to ensure compliance with company standards and within the scope of the collective agreement
Assign all manpower resources
Solve day-to-day warehouse issues (own shift)
Plan for next shift’s production
Ensure all outbound and inbound trucks are loaded / unloaded in a timely and efficient fashion while maximizing productivity
Ensure that materials are processed or picked (including packaged) in precisely the size and quantity that the customer expects
Ensure inventory integrity is maintained
Ensure equipment uptime, productivity and accuracy is maximized
Ensure that we are the low cost provider of products and services
Ensure a clean, safe and well organized working environment is maintained and all operations are in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, quality standards and company policy
Health & Safety: Ensure all employees work in compliance with OH&S acts, regulations and codes and the Russel Metals Corporate Safety policies and procedures; Advise workers of potential and actual hazards; Take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of workers; Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated and that recommendations for prevention are effective; Ensure all employees are properly trained and qualified to perform their duties; Support and enforce the Quality, Safety and Health initiatives.
Education and skills required
Proven experience leading, supervising and directing employees
General knowledge of all warehouse machine and equipment operations
Understanding of overall warehouse operations, including shipping & receiving
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
Proven ability to coordinate multiple priorities at once
Effective oral / written communication skills
Knowledge of Metalware (including bar coding), Employment Standards Act, applicable transportation legislation, ISO quality standards, company policies and inventory control procedures and reports
The ability to work under minimal supervision
Knowledge of quality and safety procedures related to warehouse operations.
Must be able to work shifts
Must be able to enforce the various government laws and company policies.
Basic understanding of manufacturing business cycle transactions
Managerial /Supervisory experience.
1– 2 years previous office experience an asset, business certificate preferred
